It was great news to hear that the pioneering independent store, Snowhome, was not going to close down after all. Helen Harris from Owl & Monkey wrote us this guest blog about it.

Two of York’s independent shops, Owl & Monkey and Snowhome, have announced exciting news.

Angus McArthur, recently shared the news that he would be closing his much loved Gillygate design shop, Snowhome, in the Spring.

It was news that was heard with much sadness by Owl and Monkey owners, Helen and Matt Harris.

They opened their Heslington Road homewares and lifestyle shop in 2017 with a simple mission in mind: to create a joyful, storybook shop offering community connections, inspiration and a carefully chosen range of goods to spark joy in the everyday.

Snowhome was one of the independent shops which inspired their journey and, like Angus, the importance of collaborative working with makers and creators and a desire to select a range with responsible, conscious consumerism in mind were at the core of their vision.

So, they are thrilled to annouce that they have come to an agreement to take over ownership of Angus’ beautiful shop in the early summer.

Owl & Monkey will move into Gillygate to create O+M at Snowhome, a considered range of design-led, slow-living and responsibly sourced goods that celebrate the everyday and bring old favourites and new discoveries for customers old and new.

Updates and news of the developments will be available on their Instagram accounts @owl_and_monkey and @snowhomeuk and websites www.snowhome.co.uk and www.owlandmonkey.co.uk.
