Fishergate’s Millennium Field Summer Fair takes place on Sunday 7th July from 1pm to 5pm at Millennium Field, just by the Millennium Bridge in Fishergate. Come along and get the summer off to a great start.

The fair is a lovely opportunity for all the neighbourhood to get together, have fun, meet up and celebrate this vibrant community.

For the first time ever we are hosting the Fishergate Dog Show. We want to find the cutest, scruffiest, waggiest dogs in the neighbourhood. So be sure to bring your pooch between 2 and 3pm to be entered in the dog show, simply register on the day.

Enjoy local live music, fabulous medieval re-enactments, join in with Caperoeira an energetic Brazilian cross between dance and martial art, have mini massages and even check out scythe demonstrations of our wildflower meadow.

And you can fill your bellies up too!

There will be bubbling pizza made right on site by YO31, yummy YUMI international cakes, top cafe fare from Busk and good good coffee. Two Hoots will be around too, so ice cream for all!

Get ready for the launch of the Fishergate Footprints a new walking initiative, showcasing different walks enabling all to discover the wonderful open spaces and hidden away green spaces in the area, and connect with nature and the rich local history.

Of course there will be free activities for kids all afternoon. Try your hand at hook- a-duck or steady your aim on the coconut shy. Why not transform yourself with clever face painting, do crafts or discover the magical woodland trail at Danesmead Wood? There’s also an opportunity to check out a Fire Engine! We know! So exciting.

As well as all the activities and food, the fair showcases many of the local community & voluntary groups so people can chat to them about the work they do to bring neighbouring people together and care for our precious environment.

There’s Friends of Danesmead Wood who have done a superb job turning the wood into a magical space for walks, adventure and quiet contemplation, YUMI, the intercultural network whose community allotment at Fulford Cross gives everyone the chance to learn gardening skills, make friends and share food.

You will also be able to find out what is going on in the local area by talking to the CYC Community & Equalities Fishergate team and find out more about Broadway Area Neighbours and Friends, Friends of Fenby Field, York Steiner School, Fishergate, Fulford & Heslington History Society, Friends of York Cemetery, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Bookcase For All.

So what are you waiting for? Millennium Field Summer Fair is the only place to be on the afternoon of Sunday 7th July. Why not bring your picnic blanket or camping chairs and make an afternoon of it?

Want to be more involved? Why not help out as a steward on the day. Even a hour’s support would make a big difference. We love to have new volunteers!

Come along, try something different, entertain your kids, chat to your neighbours, make new friends and find out what is going on in your local area. And don’t forget to bring your dog!

Let’s make your Fishergate an even better place to live.
