As a volunteer, a trustee and someone that works with many different charities and community groups, I come across all kinds of people in York and sometimes they ask me advice on how to get help.
One such occasion happened last week when a young person asked me how to get vouchers for the Foodbank. I didn’t know the answer off the top of my head, so I googled the Foodbank and then called them and got a really helpful guy, Adam, telling me exactly what they should do.
One thing he really stressed was that the Foodbank was there for ANYONE who needs some help putting food on their table, no matter what the circumstances are.
Get a Foodbank voucher from over 150 agencies in York
The York Foodbank website is very comprehensive on the simple process to get food.
They work with over 150 agencies – Citizens Advice, housing support officers, children’s centres, health visitors, social services, charities, community groups, statutory bodies, schools, the Police, the Council and medical experts – who all can issue Foodbank vouchers.
And if people don’t know a local agency who can provide a voucher, they can call the Foodbank directly on 07871 610894 or email info@york.foodbank.org.uk and they will help.
Exchange a voucher for a food parcel at your most convenient Foodbank
Once a person has a voucher, they can then exchange it at a number of places for a food parcel, specific to their needs, with three days worth of essentials in it.
A typical parcel includes: Breakfast cereals, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, tinned beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, tea or coffee, biscuits and snacks.
Each Foodbank has a cafe-style environment and is staffed by non-judgemental people who want to support people and can offer practical advice and guidance.

One thing Adam did say to me is that they are always on the look out to partner with more local agencies to provide people with Foodbank vouchers. If you are connected to an organisation that would like to be able to offer a Foodbank voucher service, get in touch with them.
And… they always need people to support the Foodbank.
