I recently had the pleasure of a ‘catch-up over coffee’ with York Theatre Royal’s Outreach Director Paula Clark. Part of Paula’s role is to try to remove the physical, cultural and psychological barriers to young people visiting and engaging with the theatre. One of the programmes I was particularly impressed with was the Access all Areas programme – ‘a free programme to take part in, offering a safe and positive place each week to leave school and home life at the door, make new friends and have fun.’

Using drama and theatre as a skill for exploring the world we live in within a safe and supportive environment. Participants can learn to express themselves and discover who they are through creative and engaging activities.

Access all Areas is referral only, so if you’re working with any young people who might be interested in being involved, email accessallareas@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
