A new ‘Easy Access Plot’ has recently been opened by the Green Lane Growers, an association of plot holders on Green Lane Allotments in Acomb.
With a grant awarded by City of York Council’s Forgotten Corners initiative, the Green Lane Growers, along side York Allotments Charity Incorporated Organisation have created an accessible space on the Allotment Site for residents of York with mobility difficulties.
With the belief that all residents of York, no matter what level of ability, should be able to benefit from an opportunity to make use of this facility, a group of volunteers created a purpose-built area designed specifically with wheelchair users in mind.
There are six tenancies available, all with one raised bed within a polytunnel and one raised bed outside, made locally by people at Brunswick Organic Nursery. Each bed has a mains water supply.
The tenants will also have exclusive use of a new compostable toilet which will be shared with children from the Oaks school who use the adjacent plot.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in applying for one of the tenancies, please ask them to express an interest on the contact page of www.yorkallotments.org or they can email Colin Smith directly: colin.smith@yorkallotments.ork
