Blueberry Academy, a York social enterprise supporting young people with learning disabilities to prepare for life and work, is opening a new Supported Employment facility on Silver Street near the market.

The ‘Supported Employment at Blueberry’ job shop will initially be for young people on Supported Internships, where they can use the facilities to develop their employability, search for jobs and build on English, Maths and ICT skills.

The new centre, opening on the 1st August, aims to make the transition to adulthood and employment an easier step and will start by supporting 8 to 12 young people.

It will also provide a service to young people with additional needs in education across the city, working with learning providers such as Applefields, Danesgate and York College to bring young people closer to the world of work, exploring Saturday jobs and part time work.

Blueberry Pop up opens on Goodramgate

One consequence of this new opportunity is that the Blueberry at Silver Street Gift Shop is moving… to 13 Goodramgate (between Boyes and Oxfam) and will be the newly titled ‘Blueberry Pop-Up’. This will open on the 1st July and will continue to sell the handmade upcycled craft products made by Blueberry trainees that makes it so popular. There will be new products too, so drop in and find something fabulous.
