A not-for-profit radio station, run by socially minded Directors who raise thousands for local charities sounded too good to be true here at Social Vision HQ, but that is exactly what YO1 Radio is.
On air since Sept 2017, York’s latest local radio station brings a slice of feel good York straight into people’s homes along side an uplifting mix of new and popular music.
There’s fun at breakfast with Chris and Carla followed directly by the voice of North Yorkshire himself, veteran broadcaster Dougie Weake. Dougie even interviewed Social Vision’s founder Joe live on his show
Whether you are listening on your mobile, your smart TV, Facebook or via their website, YO1 Radio provides an ideal platform for community events, charities, local businesses and new talent. And with around 45,000 weekly consumers, this is a station really going places.
Meeting the charismatic founder Chris Marsden and his bubbly team you feel instantly at home and can tell why he is a voice of many well known brands.
Hearing how passionate about ‘giving back’ the team are is inspiring. They have already raised over £35,000 for local charities since their inception only 5 months ago, with some of Social Vision’s favourite small charities, including S.N.A.P.P.Y and York Inspirational Kids, benefitting from their quirky fundraising.
The Directors get totally immersed in hosting galas, dinners and auctioneering and their innovative ‘world’s largest christmas selfie’ station based in Coppergate Centre for 24 days straight before Christmas boosted the awareness of many local charities along side raising record breaking funds.
And it was great to hear how involved YO1 Radio are in making York great.
One of their projects over the next year is called OASIS which stands for ‘Off a seat, into Sport’ . It is designed to make playing sport and active recreation easier and more enticing for the population of York.
Through OASIS they promote local sports clubs, giving them a unique platform to encourage people to try out something new. They also host mass participation events as well as informal opportunities to play sport around the city. Chris and his family have been so inspired, they have joined a squash club; they love it!
All in all, YO1 Radio is so much more than a radio station: It’s a vital resource for connecting up York businesses and people; It’s a media hub (there’s on site hot desking, should you need one); It offers great partnership opportunities; it’s a valuable support for the city charitys and it’s even a networking facilitator
