RAY is a small registered charity providing support and information to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants living in and around the city. RAY’s aims are to:
- Advance education and relieve financial hardship amongst migrants, those seeking asylum and those granted refugee status, particularly by the provision of advice and guidance.
- Increase public awareness about the issues relating to refugees and those seeking asylum.
RAY runs a weekly Sunday drop in session (known as The Hub) for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in York, providing English and Turkish language classes, craft activities for children and an information and support service. We also provide a weekly youth & sports club (4Corners) for young people from ethnic minorities who live in York, a mentoring project for young people, and a range of other support projects.
Summary of role: The post-holder will be responsible for developing, overseeing and delivering the Youth Service, as well as other projects and programmes as directed by the RAY Manager. These will vary over time according to funding but will initially include; 4Corners Youth Club; Sports sessions; Mentoring Young People project; Supplementary School; children’s activities at the Hub.
Key tasks are:
To develop, deliver and oversee a programme of youth activities and initiatives, including sports sessions, to engage with older children and teenagers within RAY’s client group, to help achieve RAY’s Outcomes required by Funders;
To oversee a programme of mentoring for young people aged 16-19 via volunteer mentors;
To develop relationships with young people to enable them to:
- fulfill their potential
- develop their dual national identities and self confidence
- develop skills and gain experience to improve their future employment/study prospects;
To develop and oversee a programme of activities for children at The Hub, working together with the Children’s Activity Coordinator and language teacher/s to help achieve RAY’s Outcomes required by Funders
Hours: 12 hours per week – including Sunday sessions during school term time 12-4pm, and Youth sessions (alternate weeks Mondays 7-8.30pm or Thursdays 6-7pm))
Salary: NJC Scale (SCP24-28) equating to £11.61-£13.20 per hour (FTE £22,401-£25,463)
