The council and the community in the Groves have been working together to look at a number of ways to improve the area, and the progressed masterplan designs are now ready for discussion.
Everyone from the area is invited to The Groves Association Drop In Open Meeting and Groves Masterplan Consultation Event to discuss the masterplan and share ideas for the area. All are welcome to come along on Thursday 9 May from 4.30pm– 6pm to St Thomas’s Church Hall, Lowther Street, York. For more details on this event contact lisa.otter@york.gov.uk.
As part of the regeneration plan Brightsparks will be bringing workshops to the Groves on Emotional Resilience for Parents of children aged 6-11 years who live in the area, from the Summer to December 2019. To find out more visit https://www.brightsparkscic.org.uk/our-courses
To get all age groups active and moving in the local area, Move the Masses are providing free pop-up workouts in open spaces including Park Grove Primary School field and Clarence Gardens. The first two events have already taken place and the next one is at 3.30pm on Monday 3rd June at Park Grove School field. Keep up to date with their workouts at www.movethemasses.org.uk/events.
Move the Masses is also training volunteers to act as walking buddies for the most socially isolated residents, to help them confidently get out of their own homes.
The Groves Association and Flower Power CIC are also having a big push to green up the area. They are focussing on the estate’s Secret Garden and other public open spaces which could be planted up and where local people can get together to grow healthy fresh food, tackling loneliness and isolation at the same time.
And York Cares’ Big Community Challenge will take place in Clarence Gardens on 4, 5 and 6 June, bringing 100s of employee-volunteers into the Groves to transform the area outside The Hut into a wellbeing garden where people can enjoy nature and join in with gardening. Find out more about it here.
If you live in or near the Groves and want to be part of this exciting and creative project, please join us on 9 May for the masterplan event, volunteer to help or go to an event near you. For further details contact lisa.otter@york.gov.uk.
