Work begins on our first Tribe North

We are excited to have achieved planning permission to create the first box park under our Tribe brand. Set just a minute’s walk from Carlisle City Centre, nestled in the shadows of the iconic Carlisle Castle, this is a first for the Cumbria region – bringing our own take on the future of food, drink, retail and wellness coming out of Covid.

As with all of our projects, Tribe is community-focussed, and will be operated by a not for profit CIC, which allows rents to be kept low and profits to be reinvested in supporting the city’s marginalised, excluded or isolated residents.

We have worked in partnership with the local authority and Blackbox – a local team of architects – to design and deliver this flagship project. It has been funded through the Government’s Towns Fund.

I’ve spent the last four years on the A66 travelling to and from Carlisle, and have really fallen in love with the city. It reminds me very much of the York I grew up in – with that real underbelly of supressed creativity. Tribe will be the home and outlet for this energy, and I can’t wait for it to open.

The containers have been purchased and are currently undergoing their transformation ready for delivery in May. We then aim to be open in time for summer and (hopefully) a return to normality where we can see our friends and families again.

This has been made possible by the tenacity and passion of a small team of individuals, and proves good things come to those with the belief and patience to realise their ambitions. Our aim is to inspire local people to challenge the status quo and dream big!

We now have 11 towns and cities across the North of England signed up to build their own Tribe, so we’ve got a busy few years ahead of us!
