Accessible Arts & Media, an inclusive arts charity based in Chapelfields, York, has been shortlisted for the Community Organisation category at the National Diversity Awards 2019.
Over 28,000 people were nominated for the National Diversity Awards (NDA) this year and 124 nominees are going to being recognised for their various achievements nationwide.
Community organisations and role models from across the UK will head to the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on 20th September to witness the 2019 winners being crowned the best of British diversity.
Amongst those being honoured are a reformed gangster, a Junior Bake Off Star and a host of campaigners and activists, all of whom work tirelessly to combat injustice and discrimination in very different ways.
Accessible Arts & Media (AAM) have been running inclusive arts and media learning programmes in and around York since 1982. They currently run projects for learning disabled young people and adults, older people living with dementia and memory loss and people with mental ill health.
Over the years, they’ve supported over 10,000 people to develop new skills, grow in confidence and play an active role in their local community.
We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for a National Diversity Award and to have our work recognised nationally. Huge thanks to everyone who nominated us – it was really humbling to read what people wrote about our work and the difference we’ve made to people’s lives. We’re really proud to be flying the flag for inclusive arts at the NDAs. We know, from 37 years’ experience, that the arts can change lives and help create a more inclusive society where everyone has a say, and everyone gets the chance to shine.
Creative Director, Rose Kent
Designed to highlight the country’s most inspirational and selfless people, the NDAs continue to gain endorsements from high profile figures such as Stephen Fry, Sir Lenny Henry CBE and Graham Norton.
