Friday 14th December, 12pm – 2pm, St Helen’s Square, York
2pm – 4pm Kyra Women’s Project, St Saviourgate, York
York Women Count will take over St Helen’s Square in the city centre on Friday 14th December to mark 100 years to the day, since (some) women were first able to use their vote.
York Women’s Forum are holding an open air ‘York Women Count!’ event taking over St Helens Square in the city centre between 12 noon and 2pm. Rachael Maskell, York’s first woman MP and Verna Campbell, Sherriff of York, will be joining them for an afternoon of celebration, conversation and revolution!
The event will include a street stall with voter registration, a ‘USE YOUR VOTE!’ ballot box, and the opportunity to complete a York Women’s Survey, together with live female performances from Kyra Women’s Voices and Hannah Davies, vox pop interviews and filming for the Yorkshire Film Archive – followed by an after party at the Kyra’s Women’s Project from 2-4pm.
York Women’s Forum formed this year following the first York Women’s Conference held in April. It offers the women of York a voice, and space to network and campaign on the issues that matter most to them.
