The Peasholme Charity have been helping the homeless in York since 1988. Here’s a guest blog about what they do…

When we were asked to be guest bloggers for Social Vision News we were pretty excited.  Our New Years’ Resolution for 2020 was to ‘branch out’; raise the profile of the charity and start shouting about the vital services that we offer to vulnerable people in York.

It’s great to start this journey here with the support of Social Vision. So, a bit about us:

Peasholme Charity provide homeless prevention and support services in York. We work with disadvantaged and socially excluded people, in particular those who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes. In our last financial year, we supported 293 local individuals and families.

We help rough sleepers off the streets and into secure accommodation. Our Advice Services prevent homelessness from occurring by supporting those in crisis to keep their homes.

We’ve been helping the homeless of York since 1988 and we’re still going strong today, thirty-two years later. We believe this makes us the longest serving independent local charity serving homeless people in York and that in itself is pretty amazing.

Yvonne, Charity Manager.

We are working closely with partner organisations to create a Homeless Hub – a safe and inclusive space for some of York’s most vulnerable people – which will launch within the next few months. Follow/Like us on Facebook @PeasholmeCharity for updates.

Funding changes have had a significant impact on our charity in recent times and this requires us to look into innovative ways to source income.   We’re a small, dedicated team passionate about ending homelessness in York and we need your help.

“We need the support of local people to help us in our fundraising efforts so that we can continue to deliver the services that really are a lifeline for the people that come to us for help.”  says Hayley, who has recently joined the Peasholme team as Marketing Officer.

Could you help Peasholme Charity fundraise? Are you a talented baker, a runner or a singer in a band? Contact us directly on 01904 466866 if you can help – we can’t wait to hear from you.
